An open-access college that serves to impart skills in trades having a local and national labour market demand targeting youths from the underprivileged community, O.P. Jindal Community College (OPJCC) was initially established as OPJITS in 2007. OPJCC supports the Government's "Skill India" mission by providing opportunities for technical training leading to employment. Since its inception, over 1.2 lakh learners have benefited from OPJCC vocational skills training programs. With its mission to develop a world-class workforce and promote sustainable livelihoods, OPJCC now operates four brick-and-mortar technical vocational education and training (TVET) facilities that offer comprehensive short- and long-term programs ranging from three to 24 months. In addition, it provides skilled, certified trainers for programmes pan India. OPJCC is located in Raigarh in Chhattisgarh; Angul and Barbil in Odisha; and Patratu in Jharkhand, serving residential and commuter students ages 18-45 from school drop-outs to diploma holders in need of relevant, labour market skills and on-job experiences. Cutting across several occupational sectors, OPJCC's government-recognized vocational training certificates are in construction, mechanical trades, hospitality and tourism, plumbing, security, and electrical/power sector covering National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) levels 3 to 6 out of 10.
To extend its impact and outreach, OPJCC offers quality skills training to workers on job sites as well as students in remote villages in convergence with a variety of government Skill India schemes. These include Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) training-of-trainers and assessors (ToT/A), National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) engineering programs, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana rural mason training, and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana programs, to name a few. OPJCC TVET focuses on imparting relevant, demand-driven, vocational and practical skills and trade theory, character development, and vital life skills to prepare job-ready workers and start-up entrepreneurs. Till now OPJCC, under the aegis of Jindal Foundation has contributed more than 1.2 Lakh students to the National Skill Pool.
